There always was a number of vampires living in Thornrose and the near regions. Perhaps the area suited them on some exquisite sub-level of their conciousness; perhaps human society there did not seem as troublesome as somewhere else. Over the years their population increased, though most liked to stick to their own and none went as fear to consciously reveal their identities to the humans. This was never difficult as most vampires would only come out at night and there were no human victims left after one's feeding. Vampires behaved themselves, only taking so much without actually killing anyone - if the complete draining of one's body did occur, the vampire who had taken blood took special care in making the body disappear. Such cases were few and the targeted humans were tourists and travellers rather than locals. When looking at the bigger picture, life in Thornrose was peaceful and unwavering.

But the peaceful times are slowly coming to an end.
